Reading the nameplate code: what do TV-5 XP and KV-5 SE mean?

Every S+R electric linear actuator carries a product code on its nameplate (type plate), such as TV-5 XP or KV-5 SE. This page explains what each part of the code stands for and lists every code. The manufacturer is S+R Linear Technology GmbH in Homberg (Ohm), Germany, which emerged from S + R automation systems GmbH – repairs, spare parts and replacement actuators come directly from here.

S+R electric linear actuators of design X, type P, in sizes 5, 30 and 50 – nameplate codes such as KV-5 XP, TV-30 XP or KV-50 XP
Design X · type P · sizes 5, 30, 50
In brief

The code has four parts: thread type (KV or TV), size, design (A, S or X) and type (P or E). TV-5 XP is an electric linear actuator with a trapezoidal screw, size 5, design X and type P (profile). From this code, S+R can tell straight away which design and size your actuator is – the starting point for a repair, a spare part or a replacement actuator.

Structure

How the nameplate code is structured.

Four elements, always in the same order – shown here for TV-5 XP

TV

Thread type: KV or TV

KV stands for a ball screw, TV for a trapezoidal screw. The screw type determines the spindle’s efficiency, self-locking behaviour and service life.

5

Size

The number after the hyphen is the size: 5, 10, 20, 30, 50, 60, 80. Each size comes with a maximum actuating force for the standard version (see the table below).

X

Design: A, S or X

The second-to-last letter is the design – in other words, how the motor is connected to the spindle. It corresponds to the A, S and X series.

P

Type: P or E

The last letter is the type: P stands for profile (square aluminium profile), E for a round housing.

Sizes and maximum actuating force

10on request
20up to 15 kN
30up to 25 kN
50up to 50 kN
60up to 80 kN
80on request

For sizes 10 and 80, we provide the actuating force on request.

In older documents the series may also appear as AP, SP and XP. On the nameplate these are two separate elements – design plus type: XP means design X in type P (profile). The code may also be written without separators: TV5XP and TV-5 XP denote the same actuator type.

Design

Design A, S or X – the second-to-last letter.

The design describes how the motor drives the spindle. Every design is available with a ball screw or a trapezoidal screw, in all sizes and in both types.

Service

Found the code – what next?

The nameplate code tells S+R exactly which design, size and type of actuator you have. S+R inspects, repairs and supplies replacements – including for actuators that have been in service for many years.

Repair

The actuator is inspected, wear parts are replaced and the assembly comes back to you overhauled.

FAQ

Common questions about the nameplate code.

What does TV-5 XP mean?

TV-5 XP: S+R electric linear actuator, trapezoidal screw (TV), size 5 (up to 8 kN), design X (X series), type P = profile. The code is read from left to right: thread type, size, design, type.

My nameplate says “S + R automation systems”. Is that S+R?

Yes. From 2001 onwards, S + R automation systems GmbH developed and built electric linear actuators in Homberg (Ohm). Today S+R Linear Technology GmbH looks after these actuators at the same location – with repairs, spare parts and replacement actuators.

The code is written without a hyphen or space. Is it the same one?

Yes. TV5XP, TV-5XP and TV-5 XP all denote the same actuator type. What matters are the letters and the number, not the separators.

What does the “E” at the end mean, for example in KV-5 SE?

E stands for a round housing. KV-5 SE is therefore an actuator with a ball screw, size 5 and design S (worm-gear drive) with a round housing.

The code on my actuator does not match this scheme.

Then it is most likely an older or customer-specific version. Send us a photo of the nameplate – S+R uses the photo and the nameplate details to identify the actuator.

Can S+R repair or resupply an actuator with this code?

Yes. S+R inspects the actuator, repairs it, or supplies spare parts or a new actuator of the same design. Which option makes sense depends on the assessment.

Note the nameplate code and send an inquiry – callback for technical clarification.

Give us the code from the nameplate and briefly describe the problem. S+R gets back to you with an assessment of whether a repair, a spare part or a replacement actuator is the right option.
